Celebrating Life!
That has been a major theme in my adventure finding happiness being a journey, not a destination.
Along the way, in 1969 I discovered the Sons of Champlin (the Sons) a seven piece band with drums, guitars, keyboards, trumpet, alto sax, and vibraphone. They had been together since 1967, and by 1969 the San Francisco music scene included the Fillmore and Avalon ballrooms for music performance, and as the Sons joined that music venue, they earned a reputation as a group of R&B and jazz musicians far above the caliber of the electrified folk-rockers who made up most of that scene.
Following my own personal music style and preferences, the Sons boasted a horn section with their song arrangements being far ahead of the simple guitar only rock music which set the Sons apart from their guitar-dominated band counter parts playing the San Francisco ballrooms.
Some of the key elements of their music that attracts me to them are philosophical themes, a horn section, R&B and jazz tempos, and a slight touch of rock. These are the things which set the Sons apart from most of the bands of the sixties and seventies.
Enjoy the following example of the Sons recently playing “Rooftop”, a song with a philosophical message, a good R&B back beat arranged with jazz chords, and an outstanding solo on vibes.
My sister, Terry, found this band and their music to be particularly uplifting when she lived in Concord, California.

Life is worth the Living, and to live it your way with joy and reckless abandonment from the many P.C. social ruling dictates that serve mostly to oppress your desire for simple righteousness, peace and joy found only through self-restraint, self-discipline, and self-government.

The philosophy is in the song lyrics:
I’m not going to give up my world to you…
