Good business is more than just Positive Thinking

The following video created by RSA Animate dot org presents nicely some of the fallacy and danger using only a “Positive Thinking” attitude not based on other important character development attributes.  Positive attitude alone will produce the results shared in this video narrated by Barbara Ehrenreich who explores the dark side of positive thinking.

While attitude about life in general is important, I believe the most important part of your business in life is to achieve success.  And based on fifteen axioms that one chooses to practice, success is defined as the attainment of a definite chief aim without violating the rights of other people.

The fifteen axioms are:

  1. A Definite Chief Aim
  2. Self-Confidence
  3. Habit of Saving
  4. Initiative and Leadership
  5. Imagination
  6. Enthusiasm
  7. Self-Control
  8. The Habit of Doing More Than Paid For
  9. Pleasing Personality
  10. Accurate Thinking
  11. Concentration
  12. Co-Operation
  13. Profiting by Failure
  14. Tolerance
  15. and Practicing the Golden Rule
The Golden Rule would have us learn to do unto others as we would have them to unto us.
The image of the Good Samaritan would have us learn the Golden Rule: "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

No amount of positive thinking alone can produce the good results made from the deliberate practice and application of these axioms.

And finally, being a bit contrary to Barbara Ehrenreich’s statement that there is no absolute truth, I find that there is one all prevailing truth and life will go well for those who freely choose from a pure heart to abide in it.  The truth is there is a master force, the source of all creation which many people call God, and God can be known in a very personal way.  God has principles and precepts that can not be broken without consequence, but to follow them in an honorable selfless manner produces power.  From God, one can channel a miraculous heavenly power, not for personal gain but for the benefit of the common good, which provides a unique ability to practice and succeed by the fifteen axioms listed above.
