Woman Like You

The following material is for you artists who are the house band to Harmonica John Fraser. Clifford Maverick Taylor will be hosting the Tuesday night, January 9th event, and in preparation he is offering practice sessions the evenings of Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

All the song material I’m practicing are on the following list, and a schedule of the evening hours I’ll be practicing while broadcasting my rehearsal session on Internet JAMKAZAM is limited to 8 musicians. You are only allowed to join the session by your request for approval. Also, any four (4) individuals can join me in the studio playing into the Linear Array studio mix that is being broadcast.

My first preferred instruments are: Singer(s), Drummer, Bass, Piano, Reed/Brass instruments, Guitar players. These practice sessions are time focused on how to be a LIVE Karaoke band (w/o the techo) whose song arrangements have purpose to accompany the singer(s). There is minimum time for solos in these sessions, save that for the stage performance (or come to more of my rehearsals before another event date L.O.L.)

I’m providing the song list for my opening 30-45min set.

After this set, we will medley into the opening song 1 of 3 as we accompany Ms. Toni Nickley. Her music is here, too.

Then, we will medley again into the opening song for Ms. Rockin Robin.

After that, only God knows what is going to happen. We’ll move to the signup list and see what we got. I’ll follow the help assistance advise any of the house band members share privately to better blend the line-up(s) available from the sign-up list. With your help, we can better assign individuals to session teams, hopefully being able to keep together those who want to play as a pre-defined team, but not an obligation. We’ll do our best to make each session the best session with everyone’s courteous effort to make each session something special for our audience.

Let us focus four (4) encouraging principles with our best music:

  1. Let ALL the people, EAT
  2. DRINK
  3. DANCE
  4. and CELEBRATE LIFE !

I have prepared four (4) additional recital music-binders for C-Instruments (Drums, Bass, Piano, Guitar) and I have the Director manual of all music. The following is what will be found in each binder (only on loan for this event, 2-music-stands w/light provided. Music for Bb and Eb instruments is available upon request, all for loan only).

HERE are some basic stage-performance RULES in particular that favor the Singer(s):

  1. Watch the Singer(s) body language, they are NOT ready to sing until they approach the microphone and give you the “Nod” ! SO… use this time to improvise on your instrument to create the feeling and groove that the singer is about to step into and command !
  2. The music chart for each song is ONLY a GUIDE about what can happen during the performance, so watch the Singer and the music director for direction.

We should be able to get through this set will very little delay between songs, just enough time to change pages, remember what we are going into next song (intro groove, exit transition of the song).

Making a Song into a Jam

jam session is a relatively informal musical event, process, or activity where musicians, typically instrumentalists, play improvised solos and vamp over tunes, drones, songs, and chord progressions. To “jam” is to improvise music without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements, except for when the group is playing well-known jazz standards or covers of existing popular songs. Original jam sessions, also called “free flow sessions,” are often used by musicians to develop new material (music) and find suitable arrangements. Both styles can be used simply as a social gathering and communal practice session. Jam sessions may be based upon existing songs or forms, may be loosely based on an agreed chord progression or chart suggested by one participant, or may be wholly improvisational. Jam sessions can range from very loose gatherings of amateurs to evenings where a jam session coordinator or host acts as a “gatekeeper” so that appropriate-level performers take the stage to sophisticated improvised recording sessions by professionals which are intended to be broadcast live on radio or TV or edited and released to the public.
